About Our Foundation

The State of Florida requires that the interests of every abused and neglected child be represented by a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in court. These volunteer child advocates are central to fulfilling society’s most fundamental obligation to protect our children. Guardian ad Litem volunteers are the voice of the child in court and the child’s best interest is their only interest. They help them both in and out of the courtroom to make sure the children’s needs are met by the system and they are often the only consistent adult in a child’s life.

Foster children in Pinellas and Pasco counties often need more help than the system can provide. The Guardian ad Litem Foundation was founded to ensure that the basic rights and needs for every child in the Guardian ad Litem program are met. We work to ensure that there is a volunteer advocate for every abused, abandoned, or neglected child in Pinellas and Pasco counties by raising funds and resources for the Guardian ad Litem Program in Pinellas and Pasco Counties. These resources help us to:

  • Recruit, train and retain more Guardians to serve children in need.
  • Increase public awareness that all children who cannot live safely at home need a Guardian who will help guide their safe passage out of foster care.
  • Provide for children’s basic needs, from clothing and personal care items to tutoring and counseling.

Our long-term strategic vision is that every child in the child welfare system in Pinellas and Pasco Counties will have a voice in court.

We need your help to achieve it.

Right here in our community, the number of foster children in front of the courts is staggering-more than 3,000 children a year.  At any given time, there are over 1,500 kids waiting for a volunteer advocate to be appointed to them.  We are working diligently to help more kids like make sense of the Juvenile Court system and to help them find a permanent home quickly. Your support will not only change the life of one of the 1,500+ children waiting for an advocate but has a lasting impact that changes the future of our community.
